Our senior committee members will teach you the fundamentals and help hone your skill in all 3 blade disciplines.



Hockey Training

ALL WELCOME!!

Fun and social trainings MONDAY and TUESDAYS 6-7pm. We get taxis/lifts to the pitch from the Library Car Park entrance beside roundabout into University. 

We have spare sticks so all you need is a pair of runners and any sportswear so come along!!


Kickboxing Training

All levels catered for especially beginners. Wear comfortable clothing. Expect a good workout and to acquire a new skill


Weekly Mixing Set

Our weekly mixing and tutorial slot. 

 

This is the gateway through which all our new budding and sometimes very nervous DJs earn their stripes. Ideally aimed towards complete beginners, we'll show you what button does what, where to plug the things in and exactly what the sync key does! 

 

For our more experienced members we encourage you to come along and introduce the new generation of disk jockeys to how you operate. We welcome anyone who has past experience behind the decks to show us how its done!

The weekly workshops are dramas main way of keeping in touch and having fun with our members. Each workshop takes on a different topic, be it improv, movement or even stage combat. So if you've got the time, pop your head into Classhall E every Monday at 7pm!


Debating 101

Debating 101 is all about becoming a Master Debater.

Dafe & Mark are ready to teach you how to master the art of debating through continous workshops entailing mock debates, judging workshops and sharing the passed down wisdom of the debating Gods amongst all who attend.

Both 1st time and experierenced debaters are welcome to join and grow their knowledge on this art form and have a laugh in the process.

History Hangouts

We just chat about history and eat sweets. Each week has a specific theme to be discussed (we do tend to go off topic.) We start off playing ice-breakers to get people talking, then launch into the discussion. Don't worry if you don't study History or aren'r knowledgeable on the topic. Everyone is welcome! It's banter :)


Open Frisbee Training

This training is open to both men and women, and welcomes players of any or no experience. 


Language Zone

This is our weekly Language Zone, the main way to learn a language within the society. Come anytime between 5pm and 8pm to meet up, drink some tea and of course learn your target language. We try to link you with a native speaker where possible to learn a language. Language Zone is a relaxed, informal environment to learn your languages at your own pace, to suit you!

Weekly meet up of the literary wing of the Omega society where people can come along to discuss their favourite books as well as browse and borrow from the collection of volumes the society has to offer.

Open Frisbee Training

This is our beginner focused training. This training is open to both men and women and goes through the basic skills of frisbee. 


Creative Coffee

Creative Coffe is our weekly meet up where we provide a chillout space for students to come and escape the stresses of college life.

We provide tea, coffee, biscuits, colouring pages, play dough, and we all sit around and embrace our inner children!

It's very relaxed, full of wonderful people and the perfect way to end a busy week.

MUCK Pool Training

We hold our weekly MUCK trainings in Palmerstown pool every Thursday. We meet at our container on South Campus and get a private bus from there to the pool, but we will be meeting outide the library for the first week or two to show you where the container is so keep an eye for someone with a paddle. We meet at 18:00, leave at 18:10 and train from 18:30-20:30 and then get the privare bus back to campus. We arrive back at about 21:00. We supply all the kayaking gear so all that is needed is a towel, swimming togs, shorts and a tshirt. 


Fellowship

An evening of fellowship, dicusions, songs and prayer. Refreshments will be provided.

Galway Cycle Training Cycles

We organise weekly training cycles to both increase overall fitness levels as well as teach everyone the proper etiquette when cycling in a group. These cycles are at a comfortable pace (approx 25 km/hr) and everyone is taken care of.

Information on the training cycles

  • Saturday & Sunday mornings, 10am at the south NUIM campus gates
  • Here is the training plan (check out our training plan)
  • Attendance is taken at each training cycle
  • For insurance purposes each cyclist must be insured through cycling Ireland prior to attending the training cycles. See here for details on how to obtain the insurance.
  • Compulsory attendance is required at two mandatory training sessions. There will be two weekends in February  and two in March. It is compulsory to attend at least one of these February sessions and one of the March sessions. If you are unable to do so, please email the training committee to explain. (training@galwaycycle.ie).  Please see the training plan for specific dates for this year.

What to bring to the training cycles

  • Helmet (no helmet, no cycle)
  • Proof of your License with Cycling Ireland
  • For each training cycle, bring an isotonic drink, some food (such as bananas, chocolate, flapjacks etc) and some shopping money (€3)
  • Spare tube and a pump
  • Padded shorts – especially if you want to sit down again… ever
  • Gloves & warm footwear
  • Light rain jacket
